The animals, our friends
Some animals are endangered, here are some examples;
-
The bonobo
Pan paniscus
The habitat of the bonobo is the Democratic Republic of Congo. He is one of the monkeys with the
most DNA in common with humans. It averages 39 kilos for males and 31 kilos for females and
measures 70 to 83 cm. It is an animal rarely aggressive towards its congeners. Bonobos live in a
matriarchal society where it is the females who have the power and where the status of males is
defined by that of their mother. Nevertheless, the disappearance of its habitat and the poachers
who hunt it for its meat make it an endangered species. Organizations such as the UN and WWF, for
example, monitor and protect these monkeys, especially in regions designated as national parks.

The West African lion of Africa
Panthera leo leo
The West African Lion has a sand-colored fur, the tip of its tail is dark and the male has a large
mane. Of all the Liones, the West African lion is the least present. There are only 250 left at the
adult stage on the continent. It is therefore one of the most threatened species of its kind. It is
in critical danger of extinction. Indeed, the West African Lion is a victim of poachers and the
evolution of its habitat that reduces prey in order to feed. Following the discovery of its
possible extinction, large national parks were created around the lion's hunting grounds to monitor
it and ensure its survival. In addition, its species is subgenetically different, so it cannot
reproduce with another type of lion.

The giant panda
Ailuropoda melanoleuca
The giant panda has a recognizable black and white fur. His legs, his ears and circles around his
eyes are black. The panda is very dependent on the survival of the forest, in fact it feeds almost
exclusively on bamboo they are not enough nutritious, it must eat a lot in order to survive. He
therefore spends almost all his days looking for bamboo in order to have an adequate nutrient
intake. This is why baby pandas are born very small and very fragile. Because of deforestation,
urbanization and poachers in search of its fur, the panda is on the way to disappear. There are
only 2000 left. China is struggling to protect this population, unfortunately pandas have low
fertility, and their offspring are very vulnerable which greatly complicates the task
-
The pangolin
Manidae
The pangolin is an extremely endangered insectivore from India, Nepal, Bhutan, and many other
regions. It is an animal of rather small size, which is discreet and slow. It is easily recognized
thanks to its armor of scales which it is covered, as well as its tail which goes from 25 to 38 cm.
Its days are composed of sleeping and hunting insects. The pangolin is mainly threatened by animal
trafficking and poaching, as it is highly prized in medicine. Numerous scales are found in traffickers'
fields. Many means of protection arise such as preventive laws, rescue centers and rehabilitation
of pangolins. However, these means are not enough and the number of pangolins will continue to
decrease in China.
-
The siberian Tiger
Panthera tigris altaica
The Siberian tiger is a species of feline more commonly known as the love tiger. It is recognized
by its orange-yellow fur with fine black stripes and a lighter fur on the belly. It has a large
head with very strong and powerful jaws with very large canines. Because of hunting, the species
almost became extinct whereas it was previously widespread in the eastern extremity of Russia, and
on the north-eastern borders of China and North Korea. Russia decided to preserve this species and
protect 560 tigers living in the wild.
-
The Red Vari
Varieca rubra
The red vari is a primate species. This animal is critically endangered. It has yellow eyes, and its head and its pointed snout are black. Its head is surrounded by a red ruff and its body is covered with fur of the same color. The red vari has also a tail, hands and legs completely black and has a white spot on its head. The threat to this species comes from hunting but also from the disappearance of its habitat. It is very vulnerable because of its need for large trees to survive and its constant search for fruit, nectar, and flowers to feed.
The animal cannot live in recently planted forests. Moreover, its meat is the main reason why it is hunted, and in order to combat the problem, some forests protect them. Take for example the Masaola rainforest which has become a protected park.
Despite this, illegal hunting and logging is still going on.
